Bendix DD13 Air Compressor — What It Does The air compressor on the Bendix DD13 is the brake system’s power plant — an engine-driven piston pump, fed by the engine’s own oil and typically cooled by its coolant, building the reservoir pressure that every brake application, suspension bag, and air accessory spends. About this system: Two disciplines decide whether a compressor replacement succeeds. First, leak-down before condemnation: a compressor that “can’t keep up” is often a healthy pump serving a leaking system, so measure system leakage rate and build time against specification before the expensive verdict. Second, the dryer pairing: an…

  1. Arnie Schmidt –

The truck came in with oil pooling inside the secondary air reservoir and sticking unloader valves on the air dryer. After verifying zero system leaks and checking crankcase pressure, we pulled the old compressor and found oil leaking past the piston rings into the head. Swapped in this new K034655 unit along with a fresh desiccant cartridge. Flushed the discharge lines, ran the compressor through three full cut-in/cut-out cycles, and verified clean, dry air at the purge valve. Perfect fitment for DD13 vocational chassis.
